Congress Should Use SCOTUS on Trump
SCOTUS never said an insurrectionist could be president — they only said we couldn’t stop him from running
Why is no one even talking about this? Except for a few brave women like Leigh McGowan and Jessica Densen, the YouTube world has been quiet about the one avenue we have to save our country from a lying psychopath.
When the right-wing dominated Supreme Court of the United States refused to rule Trump unqualified to run for president, they said two things worth remembering:
- An insurrectionist cannot be prevented from running for office; only from taking office, and
- No single state can prevent an insurrectionist from running for federal office. That power rests solely with the Congress.
There are also some things SCOTUS didn’t say that are worthy of note.
First, SCOTUS never denied the validity of the Colorado court's finding that Trump was guilty of insurrection. They bypassed that topic entirely because it was moot in the context of their decision. Guilty or not, they wouldn’t let a single state remove a candidate from a ballot — for any reason — due to its potential impact on a federal election.
