Have you been watching the hearings? I’m retired now, so I’ve had the luxury of watching them in their entirety. I’ve also been hearing more about what the DOJ is doing now. It’s taken far too long, but based on the evidence presented, I’d say some big heads will roll, and it will become apparent to those who defied the law that, in the end, that gets you in jail.

The emboldening of the fanatical right-wingers is frightening, and sometimes it can feel like a wave that can’t be stopped, but I believe deep down they are all cowards. When our justice system finally catches up to the coup’s participants (at all levels), we will see a much different situation.

After all, the institutions held —the people unwilling to lie saved us. And we can expect Garland to systematically (albeit slowly) go after the perpetrators of the insurrection.

Do you remember the hype about the white supremacist groups who were expected to show up for the anniversary of the protests in Charlottesville? News anchors kept saying how worried everybody was about that. It ended up being something like 50 people wandering around then wandering off.

By the time the hearings are over and the DOJ has done its job, I believe there won’t be enough of the crazies left to satisfy their need for safety in numbers. Everybody rational will have left that ship. And we will soldier on, much as we always have.
