I agree with everything you said here but I have to ask--What exactly do you propose? We are good at investigating after the fact but we have no systems in place for preventing tragedies like this.

Do NATO allies parachute into Zaporizhzhia, shoot all the Russians and hope they don't accidentally shoot the only people who know how to run the plant?

Should we send Putin the prisoner we've been trying to use as leverage to get Brittney Griner back and ask that the Russians leave the nuclear plant in exchange?

What other options do we have?

No one prepared for this. There is no plan of action we can refer to here. Imagine if your life depended on your ability to jump up in the air, do a somersault and land on your feet could you do it? Probably not. It would not be for lack of desire or for lack of trying--it would be because you don't have the capacity to do it.

This is where we are with Zaporizhzhia, I'm afraid.

Let us hope that someone can instill in Putin the rational fear of decimating his entire country with radiation. That may be the only chance we truly have.
