I love this piece. I am not yet a "successful" writer but I can already tell where I'm going to run into trouble: "Be willing to burn off what made you successful yesterday."

I've blogged forever but didn't pay any attention to tags. Now that I'm using them and posting on other sites, I am getting a little bit of feedback.

I never got sucked into social media. I wanted to believe it was because I didn't need the constant attention. Then I posted on DailyKos and one of my pieces got over 350 recommends and I was beside myself. I checked my stats about ten times that day and that's when it hit me: I'm getting the same charge from the kudos on DailyKos that others get from "likes" on FB. I've succumbed.

So thanks for this piece and your insights. I'm going to print your words and post them on my office wall.

It will remind me to make growing as a writer my goal, not getting a fix from how others respond.
