I suspect Guterres does not identify with the Uyghurs as much as he might with other groups you've mentioned.

It's a defense mechanism of sorts, I think. We tend to be more sympathetic to the plights of people who we see ourselves in. It's seems automatic in most of us.

Syrians have been suffering for decades and nobody in the U.S. has made a major cause out of it. But they did with Ukraine--and rightly so.

Bias is everywhere. We need to find it, expose it and work on rising above it if we're to make any progress as a species. Alas, social media aims to find it, expose it and profit from it. What can we do with that?
