I think Trump will go down first and all the members who currently vote for him out of fear with lose that motivation. But you are so right about their strategic ideology. They relish abusing the letter of the law in the name of "originalism" while chipping away at democracy at every opportunity.

If they could do what you outline here, I agree they probably would. But I think Johnson will lose his speakership within six month, so matter what happens to Trump.

Republicans in the House still don't offer us any hope for actually governing, and I believe some of these guys might face indictment in the Jan 6 case as the trial evidence is exposed.

Given Johnson's criminal exposure in the attempt to overturn the 2020 election, he may be indicted himself.

So, in the long-run, I don't think he's going to have the power you suggest. And if I'm wrong, God help us.
