I think you are dead on here. Putin is a megalomaniac--that level of self-absorption and lack of empathy leads to crazy behavior--whether he is diagnosable as nuts or not--this is why, IMO, he and Trump are buddies.

But Putin is infinitely smarter than Trump, so Trump needed Putin to help him look smarter than he is--and Putin needed Trump to destroy America.
