In 1989, women struggled to get work in male dominated industries and we NEVER made close to what men made. It's important to understand that we exist in a culture that still treats women as assistants, even when they're not. Women are expected to plan the parties, deal with food at meetings, set up the room, etc.

We still don't have laws to require equal pay for equal work, so we need to keep that in mind when we cite this kind of material, I think.
