Who’s your favorite historical figure and why?

That would be Queen Elizabeth the 1st. She was alive in the 1600s when women were not even considered fully human by most standards and yet she stayed in power for over 70 years and managed the men around her like a pro.

Can you judge the past with today’s lens? NO! We need to understand the lens of the past to judge the past. For example, slavery is bad. Always. Yet prior to the industrial revolution, it would have been virtually impossible to end slavery everywhere because people would starve. Slavery had been relied upon by societies for ages so the shift away from it not only required us to rethink our societal structure, but it required machines to take the place of people — machines that did not exist prior to the industrial revolution.
