Thank you for not mincing words! The entire abortion debate was also created by Republicans (Pat Roberston, originally, I think) to force the Evangelical community to becoming politically active. They didn't worry so much about abortion until Republicans created a campaign designed to rile them all up about it.

These people are so gullible they bought the argument that a fetus deserves more rights than its mother--and it's up to the government to fight for those rights. And yet, they don't want anything to do with the unwanted children once they're born.

There seems to be no limit to the nonsense you can feed ignorant people if you tell them they're right and everyone else is wrong. Trump took it a step further and told them he loved them. No wonder we're in trouble now.
