This is a really beautiful piece. I just want to add one thing: Looking outside oneself to be part of a community and do for others is huge. But so is looking inside.

To gain the desire and understanding to go outside ourselves we need to know who we are. not who we think we are expected to be.

A good analogy is the flight attendant reminding us "Put your own mask on first." Some people may be dedicated solely to doing "good work" but for most of us, finding our purpose in life requires going within. Once we know what we are uniquely suited for, we can use that knowledge to do work that is both meaningful to us and beneficial to others.
