This is an excellent, piece, but I'd take it one step further: women don't just accept it, they internalize it.
Men blame others, women blame themselves.
This works perfectly to maintain the patriarchal structure because it means that when men treat women badly, the women are groomed to believe they deserve it.
We tend to look inward more than men (gross over-generalization, but one that fits--particularly in areas where the roles for men and women never seem to evolve) so we assume it's our fault when someone hurts us. Just like kids do.
