This is my response to the sentence I've highlighted above, which literally makes me sick to read.

Children are not status symbols or proof of a woman's value.

A woman can do many things in this world--pretty much as many as a man.

Your parents are ignorant--perhaps well meaning, but ignorant nonetheless.
