Welcome to capitalism! Everybody wants more money, even if they already have a lot. Compromise is simply a matter of padding someone's pockets. It's the new American Dream: "Money for nothin' and chicks for free."

The bastards won't even do the work of a filibuster anymore. Republicans say they're going to do it and the Democrats say "oh, okay. I guess we don't have the votes."

It will be interesting to see what what Walensky does with the CDC. She has admitted to major systemic flaws and says she's committed to fixing them. I am crossing my fingers that she can set an example for the heads of other government agencies.
